Misano World Circuit > Autodromo > Misano World Circuit and WorldSBK extend agreement for another five years

Misano World Circuit, 16 June 2024 – WorldSBK and MWC announce the extension of their partnership to ensure the Emilia-Romagna Round will continue to take place at the iconic Motor Valley until 2029.

The Emilia-Romagna Round will therefore continue to thrill fans at the Misano World Circuit for another five years, thanks to the new agreement signed with Santa Monica SpA that consolidates the prestigious role of Misano, where it has been held since 1991, in the history of WorldSBK.

The Emilia-Romagna Round is not only one of the most important events in the WorldSBK calendar, but it is also a significant event for the tourism industry. The estimated economic benefits for the area, based on a survey conducted by Trademark Italia a few years ago, can now be updated to over 30 million euros.

The agreement consolidates Misano as a key stop for WorldSBK, offering fans and teams an exceptional racing experience in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley.

STATEMENTS

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewal of the partnership: “We are thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship with the Misano World Circuit. The Emilia-Romagna Round is a key event for WorldSBK, known for its passionate fans and excellent organisation. This extension until 2029 reflects our commitment to bringing world-class racing to this historic venue. We look forward to many more years of exciting races and memorable moments here in Misano.”

Giammaria Manghi, Head of the Political Secretariat of the Presidency of the Emilia-Romagna Region: “Motorsport has its historical home in the Motor Valley, where major international events are concentrated alongside a great industrial tradition and champions who write world sporting history. We continue to cultivate this ecosystem in a territory capable of always looking to the future. The Emilia-Romagna Round is a tangible sign of all this and encapsulates the values that are part of our history.”

Giovanni Copioli, FMI President:  “The combination of WorldSBK and MWC is part of the history of this competition, enriched this year with the debut of the world championship for female riders. The FMI applauds this agreement that guarantees a great sporting event for our country and that produces significant effects in fueling the passion for motorsport in the new generations. We have more and more young drivers who are passionate about it and the events generate enthusiasm and build our future”.

Fabrizio Piccioni, Mayor of Misano Adriatico: “The Emilia-Romagna Round is an event that fully represents the passion for motors that you can feel in Misano and throughout the territory. In these decades many other prestigious ones have been added, but on the WorldSBK weekends the profile that characterizes us in the world is perfectly recognizable. The economic and media value are associated, a factor that is always important for Misano and its hospitality industry and therefore the signature that extends the agreement to 2029 is great news”.

Luca Colaiacovo, President of Santa Monica SpA: “After a season of major investments in the structure of the Financo property, we are laying the foundations to guarantee MWC and the territory a calendar that is always up to the standard of one of the world capitals of motorsport. The synergy is a winning one: MWC guarantees organizational capacity and a destination that multiplies the success of events thanks to the ability to do things together. We are experiencing a record 2024, we will reach 800 thousand presences and at the same time we are laying the foundations for further developments. In essence, we never stop”.

Andrea Albani, managing director Misano World Circuit: “Big events like WorldSBK fuel the interest in motorsport and at the same time the development of a long and complex supply chain, to which we have given more and more value. The opportunities are therefore multiplying: commercial appointments, tests of the manufacturers, increase in the network of companies at MWC Square are the positive and concrete effect, up to the organization of ITS Maker to train quality professionals and useful to companies. The renewal until 2029 generates certainties and therefore optimism among the entrepreneurs of our world”.
